Eyes Open Underwater

On the first weekend in June, Mercury retrograde (June 7th) inaugurates a three-week review of all things Mercurial. We’ll be reconsidering the ways images-11we get around (driving, walking, running, riding the subway) as well as the ways we read, speak, listen, and figure things out.1

Mars and the Cross

A week after the station, Mars re-ignites the Uranus-Pluto square, unleashing the power of deep and fractious change. On the 13th-14th Mars squares Pluto exactly, and on June 24th-25th, opposes Uranus exactly.… click here to continue reading.

What About Me?

images-1As Spring comes upon us, big decisions are in the air.  They may be making us feel boxed in, since the transits aren’t giving us much room to move.1

Mars makes a retrograde station on the New Moon, the first day of March.2  A few days later, Jupiter goes direct. This puts both of these planets on track to set off the cardinal cross.

Lightning Strikes

detailed_tourist_map_of_syriaThe transits around the Equinox suggested stark raving madness. One by one, quickly moving triggers have been setting off the Cardinal Cross, starting with Mercury’s ingress into Libra, which sent the horror in Syria galloping out in front of the world’s awareness (see September’s blog).

The 13-year tenure of Neptune in Pisces has a peak this month.

As discussed in earlier Skywatches, during the years of the Cardinal Cross, Neptune in Pisces looms in the background. This month it is exaggerated by a station in early June and by a square from Jupiter around the Solstice.

Water, Water Everywhere

It is a once-in-168-year event. In a year chockfull of world-altering transits, it is one of the most important. The god of the sea is inaugurating a thirteen-year-long shift in the way we look at water.

Personality Politix

It’s that time again. Soon the American airwaves will be bristling with round-the-clock coverage of the 2012 campaigns.

Ambitious candidates are getting ready to hit the ground running, with their staffs of strategists, chauffeurs and stylists. TV executives and advertisers are licking their chops at the guaranteed spike in viewership, as they prepare to spend a year and a half convincing the public that nothing exists in this big, wide, troubled world outside of the American presidential election.

The Quake Within

It happened on the very day Uranus (shocks, shattering) moved into Aries. On March 11th, the tectonic plates under the Pacific Ocean buckled and northeastern Japan was devastated by the biggest quake-tsunami in its recorded history. At this writing the peril of nuclear reactor meltdown looms as the most far-reaching of the quake’s attendant dangers.

Come Hell or High Water

For at least part of the month of March, six planets will be in Pisces; the sign of confusion or bliss, depending on how we approach it. We’ll have the choice to either float on top of the chaos or drown in it. It all depends on how well we understand this most elusive of signs. Pisces is said to govern illusion; but it also promises to steer us through illusion, all the way to the other side...
