Mar 2021
All is Maya

As March begins, The Sun and Venus are still in Pisces, exaggerating the oceanic vibe of Neptune that’s been hanging in the air for nine years.

Having steeped in Neptune’s mysterious ethers for so long (Feb 2012 – March 30, 2025), we may have forgotten it was there. But its influence has been all-encompassing. At its most quietly potent in Pisces, Neptune’s job is to undermine our assumptions about what’s real and what isn’t.

On a collective level, this transit has been a major player in the chaos of these times (Uncle Sam has been hit hard). On a personal level, if it has been aspecting one of your inner planets you might have felt the floor crumbling beneath your feet. It teases us with uncertainty, confuses us with doubt, fogs some of us in and tunes some of us out.

But the sea god is not out to make us suffer. It has no malevolent intent. It’s just trying to remind us that nothing is as it seems.

When Mercury conjoins Neptune on 3/29, light a candle to Maya.

Samsara

For artists who explore illusion, and for spiritual seekers who contemplate the ephemerality of the Earth plane, the transit is an inspiration. With the Sun and Venus (until the 20th/21st) and Mercury (starting the 15th) passing through Pisces as well, we get the chance to take full advantage of it.

To profit from all this mist and mysticism, try playing with the idea of reality, instead of taking it so seriously. Marvel at the surrealism of life.

When Neptune and its rulership sign are this strong – peaking during the triple conjunction 3/10-13 — we’d do well to consider the concept of Samsara: the Sanskrit word that conceives of mundane existence as a cycle of drifting and wandering.

This is not a condemnation of our worldly ambitions. It’s just not the right moment to see them as the be-all-and-end-all.

Enter the ram

Then, at the Vernal Equinox, there’s a jarring but exciting shift: the seismic jolt from water to fire.

Spring in the Northern hemisphere is ignited by the Sun’s entry into Aries, which takes place this year on March 20th at 2:39 am PDT. On that Saturday, the winsome last sign of the zodiac morphs into the rambunctious first sign.

Like a cork exploding from a champagne bottle, this ingress is the official beginning of the astrological New Year. Now is the time to break out those resolutions.

The Sun will be neck & neck with Venus that first week, peaking 3/25-26. The creative push of beginning-ness is at our backs. Let’s get cracking.
